Presentation Secondary School Choir
Presentation Secondary School, Ballyphehane has a long standing choral tradition. Conducted and directed by Ms. Anne Dunphy, there is something special about our choral tradition - it is not every school choir that can maintain the exceptional standard to which our students perform. Through the years, students come and go and choir members change, but the exceptional standard remains - a tradition has been established and is respected. Siblings, cousins and even neighbours of those who went before them, want to sing in Presentation Secondary School Choir. It’s many achievements and successes include:
● Winners of the All-Island School Choir competition in 2013 and 2010, performing on RTE at the Waterfront Theatre and Titanic Centre Belfast.
● A civic reception was held at Cork City Hall to celebrate the choir’s historic double victory in the All-Island competition.
● A performance for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on her historic visit to Ireland.
● Recipient of numerous awards at Cork International Choral Festival including the John Cunningham Trophy for the best school choir of the festival on many occasions.
● Award winners at Derry International Choir Festival
● An appearance on the Late Late Show.
● Performances at Árás an Uachtaráin, Cork Opera House and the Lord Mayor’s Concert, City Hall, Cork
● Performances of newly commissioned works by Séamas De Barra and Marian Ingoldsby.
● A performance of Fuinneamh by Marian Ingoldsby as the soundtrack to the short film Oíche Nollaig na mBan, directed by Oonagh Kearney, which won numerous awards both nationally and internationally, including at the Cork international Film Festival. Members of the choir also featured in this film.
● Friendship concerts with Henry M Gunn High School Choir, Texas in St. Finbarres Cathedral and with St. Stephen’s Episcopal Madrigal Singers, Texas in our school theatre.
● Most recently 8 choristers featured on Song of Solidarity- a virtual All Island Choir sponsored by Tourism Ireland/Cooperation Ireland singing Dreams by the Cranberries.
